‘Couldn’t be more proud:’ Mindy Kaling on winning her first Tony Award for A Strange Loop

Never Have I Ever creator Mindy Kaling is on cloud nine as she earned the coveted Tony Award for A Strange Loop, a show which she produced.

On Sunday night, the 42-year-old actress and writer shared her excitement on social media after she won her first Tony Award in best musical.

“I could not be more proud and ecstatic for the creative team behind @strangeloopbway," Kaling wrote on Instagram, posting a complementary graphic. "When @benjpasek told me about @thelivingmichaeljackson's musical, I read it instantly, and couldn't believe how audacious and hilarious it was. And I hadn't even heard the music or seen the incredible cast perform it yet! I so rarely get to experience something both profoundly moving and wholly original."

"A Strange Loop is that - and I'm so happy the Tonys see that too. This musical was years and years in the making and tonight is the shiniest celebration of that hard work," she continued. "CONGRATULATIONS!!"

The Mindy Project actress kept it simple on Twitter, retweeting the news from the Tony Awards' official account along with the message, "Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"

In April, a publication reported that Kaling had signed on as a producer for the show, alongside RuPaul, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Porter, Ilana Glazer, Alan Cumming, Zach Stafford, Cody Renard Richard, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul.

Brian Wilson: 6 genres that prove he was more than just a 'Beach Boy'

Brian Wilson, who died this week aged 82, is best remembered as the sonic architect of the Beach Boys and the laid-back "California sound" that swept the world in the 1960s. But to stop there would be to miss the scale of his ambition. Arjun Rampal says Rauf in 'Rana Naidu' is the most ruthless role of his career

Arjun Rampal has stepped into a deeply unsettling place with his portrayal of Rauf in Netflix’s Rana Naidu season 2. The actor, known for playing intense characters, says this role was unlike anything he’s done before.

“He’s the most terrifyingly real character I’ve ever played,” Rampal said. Rauf is unpredictable, violent, and entirely devoid of empathy, yet not completely soulless. What sets him apart is a surprising emotional sliver: the fierce love he holds for his niece. “She’s the only one he protects without question,” he explained. “It’s the only time you see something human in him.”
