Bangladesh grants additional £20 million to health ministry

BANGLADESH on Friday (20) allocated Tk 2 billion (£20 million) to health ministry in order to equip it to fight the outbreak of COVID-19.

The health ministry was previously allocated Tk 0.5 billion (£5 million) for this purpose.


The additional fund is to take necessary measures to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country and to treat patients.

Bangladesh has so far reported 20 coronavirus cases and one death. The country said that three persons have recovered.

The finance ministry informed the health ministry about the allocation of additional funds.

Earlier on Wednesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque informed Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal about the need for additional funds to combat the spread of coronavirus.

A Coventry restaurant and its director have been ordered to pay over £40,000 after a food poisoning outbreak infected 29 diners with a strain of salmonella not previously seen in the UK.

Palm by H20 Limited was fined more than £22,000 after director Mohammed Naveed pleaded guilty to food hygiene offences at Coventry Magistrates' Court in September, the city council announced.
