Bala does a fantastic business at the box office in its first weekend

Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar, and Yami Gautam starrer Bala took a flying start at the box office. The movie collected Rs 10.15 crore on day one, and then showed a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday it collected Rs 15.73 crore and on Sunday the collection was Rs 18.07 crore. In three days, the Amar Kaushik directorial has collected Rs 43.95 crore which is excellent.

Yami Gautam took to Twitter to thank everyone for giving the film such a great response. She tweeted, “What's Monday blues? We're sure #Bala has forgotten it too! ? Thank you for all the love you've shown Bala! ? Book your tickets now! #Bala in cinemas now! #DineshVijan @amarkaushik @ayushmannk @bhumipednekar @MaddockFilms @JioCinema.”

Even for Maddock Films, it is the highest opening weekend. Producer Dinesh Vijan stated, “This weekend has not only been special for Bala but also for us at Maddock films, it’s the highest weekend for the company and it’s truly overwhelming. We always strive to do better with each film, and this love and appreciation give us the confidence to continue taking risks and backing great content.”

Maddock had four releases this year, Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala, Made In China and Bala. While Luka Chuppi and Bala have turned out to be successful, Arjun Patiala and Made In China failed to make a mark at the box office.

Well, Bala is also Ayushmann’s seventh hit in a row and even Yami had a great 2019 with two hits like Uri: The Surgical Strike and Bala. Talking about Bhumi, 2019 has been a fantastic year for her as she proved her versatility with films like Sonchiriya, Saand Ki Aankh, and Bala. She will end the year with Pati Patni Aur Woh which is slated to release on 6th December 2019.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
