Akshay Kumar not yet finalised for Ikka

A few days ago, there were reports that Akshay Kumar will be teaming up with Mission Mangal director, Jagan Shakti once again for a film titled Ikka which will be a remake of Tamil film Kaththi. However, the director has revealed that it is not yet finalised if Akki will star in the movie.

While talking to a news agency, Jagan Shakti said, "It's still in the discussion process, it's not finalised who will do it. The writing is done. We will get to know who's doing what because Akshay sir is also busy. So nothing is finalised.”

"No star cast is locked. Akshay sir wanted to see what it is, but again, it's all about dates and other things which need to be figured out. As soon as it's all fixed, I will let everyone know," the filmmaker added.

Well, Akshay is already working in the remake of Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana which is titled as Laxmmi Bomb. Kaththi was directed by AR Murugadoss and starred Vijay in the lead role. While talking about the film, Shakti said, "I want to explore that subject because Murugadoss sir is my guru and I loved the script of Kaththi. It's a very big scale commercial film... It's a very big challenge and I want to give it my all. I had committed to this long back. I am very thrilled about it because I want to explore my action and song side and make it into a spectacle.”

Coming to Mission Mangal, apart from Akshay Kumar the movie also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi and Nithya Menen. Currently, the star cast is busy with the promotions of the film. The movie is based on ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission also known as Mangalyaan, and focuses on the women scientist who worked for the mission. Mission Mangal is slated to release on 15th August 2019.

Jaivant Patel brings queer south Asian existence to the stage with 'ASTITVA'

Highlights:

  • Pushes back against old stereotypes, choosing to focus on joy and celebration instead of struggle.
  • It insists the community deserves stages for celebration, not just for sharing pain.
  • It walks through four raw, human chapters: Seeking, Desire, Acceptance, and Love.
  • Its core mission is putting brown, queer male bodies on stage in a way that is still rarely seen.

In an exclusive chat with Eastern Eye, choreographer Jaivant Patel spoke about ASTITVA, a new dance work that reimagines what it means to be queer and south Asian through movement, rhythm, and emotion.

ASTITVA translates to “existence,” an apt title for a piece born from the need to simply be seen and heard. It reflects Patel’s journey and the lived realities of queer south Asian people today.
