Biopic on Madhubala put on the backburner

Late actress Madhubala

We have seen several biopics over the years, but the one that every Bollywood enthusiast wants to watch is not even taking off the ground. We are talking about the biopic based on the eventful life of iconic actress Madhubala, who delivered a series of notable movies in her brief but storied career.

Madhur Brij Bhushan, the sister of Madhubala, had once revealed that filmmaker Imtiaz Ali was set to helm the biopic on the legendary actress, but the project never materialized because of family’s opposition. “They are saying please do not go ahead with it, but we will make it. Some way or the other, we will convince them and make it,” Madhur told a publication.

She went on to add that while Ali has terminated his current contract, she is not sure who will direct the film now. “I would not know if he would be still attached. He terminated the contract because of my family. He is a gentleman; I have nothing against him. When he saw that the family is not agreeing, he must’ve felt… May be for the time being he has put it aside. He may reconsider it, you never know.”

Madhur said the children of her sister are not letting her talk to Kaneez to get a No Objection Certificate. “I am trying my best. Her children are not allowing me to talk to her. She is a 93-year old woman and at that age people talk something which makes no sense, so maybe because of that the children are not willing. I don’t know what is happening, why are not they allowing me to talk to her. If they allow me, she will be in a better frame of mind and we will be able to sort it out. She is not in India; she is in New Zealand,” she said in conclusion.
