The 16 km stretch of River Ganga from Shivpuri to Lakshman Jhula, makes the ideal place for river rafting, guaranteeing an adventurous ride, abounding in rapids and whirlpools, with curious names like Marine Drive, Roller Coaster and CrossFire. 2. Indus River, Ladakh

The challenging rapids on the river range from grade 1-2 at some places have grade 3-5 rapids. These are months when the river Indus water levels are high. The more challenging route for river rafting lies between Alchi and Khalsi, where a kilometre long series of rapids thrill the rafters.

3. Teesta River, Sikkim and Darjeeling

River rafting in the Teesta River flowing in Darjeeling, Sikkim and Kalimpong Hill area, is of grade 4 intensity, which makes it more suitable for adept rafters. The turbulent Rangit, a tributary of the Teesta, has multi-dimensional rapids and is perfect for a challenge to more experienced rafters. River rafting season here is from the winter months of October to April.

4. Brahmaputra River, Arunachal Pradesh

The Brahmaputra River is mysterious and ferocious. River rafting in this river is done when the river finds its way in Arunachal Pradesh, down the Tibet region by cutting Greater Himalayas. River rafting here is rated at Level 4 -6. Brahmaputra River Rafting is for an exhilarating experience of a lifetime.

5. River Barapole, Coorg, Karnataka

Barapole River in Coorg, Karnataka is another popular river rafting destination in India. Located on the Deccan Plateau, the expedition begins at Ponya Coffee Estate and is graded between 2 and 4. Best season for rafting here is monsoon and post-monsoon months of June to September.
