Adam Karim wins EasternEye Best Director Award

Adam Karim has been honoured with the Best Director award at the Eastern Eye Art, Culture and Theatre Awards (ACTAs) 2025, celebrated for his exceptional work in contemporary theatre. Karim received this accolade for his compelling direction of Guards at the Taj by Rajiv Joseph, a powerful production staged at the Orange Tree Theatre. Featuring standout performances from Usaamah Ibraheem Hussain and Maanuv Thiara, the play captivated audiences and critics alike, showcasing Karim’s distinctive directorial vision.

A London-based theatre director and facilitator, Adam Karim has quickly established himself as a formidable creative force in the UK theatre scene. His rise to prominence was marked by winning the prestigious JMK Award in 2024, an accolade given to promising emerging directors. This award provided Karim with the opportunity to helm a full-scale professional production, collaborating closely with designer Roisin Jenner to bring his artistic vision to life.


Karim’s journey in theatre began with his training as an actor at the Manchester School of Theatre (MMU), where he graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in Acting. Over time, he transitioned into directing, expanding his skills and influence behind the scenes. His career includes a significant role as Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse in 2023, where he contributed to critically acclaimed productions such as Clyde’s, When Winston Went to War with the Wireless, and Trouble in Butetown.

Beyond these highlights, Karim’s directorial portfolio spans a range of diverse productions including Platform at East15, Pressure Drop with Immediate Theatre at The Yard and on a schools tour, and Second Person Narrative at the Omnibus Theatre. Alongside his directing career, Karim is also a passionate educator, having taught acting at renowned institutions such as The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, ALRA South, and The Hope Mill Theatre.
