Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan to team up for an action franchise

After delivering Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan were set to join hands for a war period drama, titled Rannbhoomi. The project was announced by Karan Johar earlier this year and the team was planning to commence production by the year-end.

However, if latest reports are to be believed, there is a massive change in plans. Instead of completing their hat-trick with Rannbhoomi, the duo will first collaborate on an action entertainer. The movie will be developed as a franchise later on.

“This one will be an action-packed film on the lines of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible series. In fact, the plan is to spin a franchise. It will be shot in India as well as abroad and is expected to go on the floors towards the middle of next year,” a source divulges the information.

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is presently busy with Dharma Productions’ next Kalank. Besides him, the movie also stars Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur. After wrapping up Kalank, the actor will start shooting for Remo D’souza’s ABCD 3 with Katrina Kaif.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
