Top 10 things that make me happy - Joty Kay

Seeing my mother happy: My wonderful mother sacrificed everything to come to a new country. She gave me and my brother as much as she could. Now it’s my turn to give back. So little things that please her make me incredibly happy. I like to introduce her to new places even though she wants me to ‘save my money’ (laughs). I love buying her new shoes and purses. I want to give her everything she deserves and more.

Joty Kay Uncut: One day, my friend told me to buy a microphone and start my own podcast. I bought one and it literally sat on the shelf for a year. Finally, one day I decided to research how to basically record, upload and never looked back. Now I have a show on Rukus Avenue and Dash Radio. My main goal is to be that person who everyone comes and sees when they visit California. I want to interview top celebrities and be the voice that people need to hear. Hopefully, one day I will be the voice of all of California.

Finding new restaurants: There are so many restaurants in Los Angeles that it gets over-whelming. But I am a master at finding spots. Ambience, service, livelihood and the taste of a restaurant are so important to me. So when I find one with all of these, I am a happy camper. I’m the person who people call when they want to find a new happening spot.

Travel: I believe travel is important for the mind and soul. I love seeing new places and meeting new people. I am an open-minded person, so to grow, I travel. I hope to travel the world one day. I have a tattoo on my wrist of an aeroplane. It’s to motivate me to try to make an effort to take a trip once a year.

Receiving positive feedback: Opening up a message from someone telling me that I have helped or encouraged them to be themselves feels great. That feeling means everything to me. That’s exactly why I do what I do. Even 10 just good messages can even a hundred negative messages, and that’s the feeling I want. That’s the feeling I care for.

Making people laugh: Seeing people laugh makes me feel like I’m doing my deed. Laughing makes life so much better. Making someone laugh who is ‘reserved’ is my favourite as it means I have ‘that’ factor.

Helping others: Being kind to one another is being overlooked in today’s generation, so I try my hardest to help others in need. Whether it’s giving back to the community, or just opening the door for someone who is talented, but held back. I don’t want anyone to have to hold back because of ‘what people will think’, who cares about those people. What matters are the ones who support and love you.

Surprises: I love getting surprises. I’m always the one surprising others, so when someone does it for me, it means so much. It’s hard to surprise me though, (FYI).

Dancing: A lot of people don’t know this about me, but I was in a dance team when I was younger. And my hip hop dance game is pretty strong. I literally dance for hours in front of the mirror. I kind of wish I took my dancing abilities to the main stage. Better late than never?

Music: Whether you are sad, happy, mad or anything else, music will be there for you no matter what. Music is life.
