Super fan of the week - Rana Daggubati

TOWERING actor Rana Daggubati has delivered powerful performances in films, including the record-breaking Baahubali blockbusters.

The superstar actor has committed admirers around the world, including Sreeya Eranki from Hyderabad, who has also set up a fan club dedicated to him.


Eastern Eye caught up with Sreeya to find out more.

What connected you to Rana?

I started admiring him the very first time I watched him on screen, in the film Leader.

What made you a super fan?

He is unique and passionate about cinema. He is a bag of talent and versatile; from being a VFX supervisor to an award winning producer to a pan-Indian actor, and not to forget an amazing storyteller.

Tell us about something super you have done for Rana?

I started a fan page for him on Twitter (@DaggubatiFC), which is running successfully with thousands of followers, and I’ve written many articles about him, which got published online. And I’ve also sketched and painted few portraits of my favourite star.

What has been your most memorable moment?

The very first time I met him in an unexpected situation. He made it very special for me. Also, the way he always responds to my tweets.

What is the thing you most love about Rana?

I love the way he lives each and every character that he plays and the way he transforms himself; from a trendsetting politician in Leader to a ruling villain in Baahubali and then to a super cool navy officer in Ghazi. Not to forget his strong commanding voice, which mesmerises me.

Which quality in Rana do you most relate to?

We have a lot in common such as our love for photography, family, food, travelling, watching movies and passion for work.

What is your favourite work Rana has done?

Nene Raju Nene Mantri is one of my favourite films where he portrayed a loving husband to an ambitious politician.

Why do you love being Rana’s super fan?

I felt some sort of connection when I first saw him on screen. From following him on social media to taking up filmmaking as my career, he has been an inspiration.

Sreenivasan has died in Kochi at 69, ending one of the most influential runs in Malayalam cinema. He was being taken for dialysis on Saturday when he developed breathing trouble, and doctors at the Government Taluk Hospital in Tripunithura said he died around 8.30am. The industry has lost a writer-performer who pulled Kerala society into his stories with humour, politics and small, real lives.
