Sriram Raghavan pitches yet another thriller to Ayushmann Khurrana

It is not an exaggeration to say that Sriram Raghavan is the finest new-age filmmaker when it comes to delivering nail-biting edge-of-the-seat thrillers. Almost all his films have been critical as well as commercial hits at the box-office with his last Andhadhun (2018) being touted by many his best film so far.

Besides his competent direction and taut writing, what made Andhadun a perfect thriller was its performances. Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte just nailed their characters. Impressed by the powerful performance from Ayushmann Khurrana in the film, we hear that the filmmaker has offered him yet another suspense thriller.

“Sriram has pitched an idea to Ayushmann and he has liked it very much. In fact, he has also given his nod to the project. Sriram had taken time off to write two scripts. This is yet again a typical Sriram Raghavan film which will be dark, intriguing and mysterious,” a source tells an Indian daily.

Some section of the media recently reported that the said project could be a remake to Andhadhun. However, the source rubbishes the rumour. “Sriram doesn’t believe in making sequels and franchises. Although there has been enough talk about Andhadhun 2, this film isn’t that one. It’s a new project with a completely fresh plotline and he plans to mount it sometime this year, after Ayushmann completes Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan,” adds the source.

Meanwhile, Sriram Raghavan has also teamed up with Tips Films’ Ramesh Taurani for a suspense thriller. More details are awaited.

  • Why the film frames the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation through one man’s choices
  • Balancing politics, melodrama and cinema
  • How music, casting and tone were shaped by craft, not compromise

A film surrounded by noise

Sudha Kongara is among the few Tamil directors whose films carry a distinct voice. With Parasakthi, that voice has had to compete with chaos. Long before release, the film was caught in disputes over its title, shifting cast announcements, ED searches, plagiarism claims and, finally, a list of changes demanded by the Central Board of Film Certification.

In all that, the film itself risked becoming secondary. Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in her Tamil debut, retells the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitation in Tamil Nadu. The core of the film unfolds over just 19 days , from January 24–25 to February 12, 1965.
