Sridevi did not want Janhvi to become an actor

The late Sridevi's daughter Janhvi is all set to take Bollywood by storm with Dhadak, which also stars Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khatter.

While Janhvi has always been interested in acting, her mother wasn't too keen for her to take up acting as a profession.

During a recent interview, Janhvi was asked about her mother's reaction when she expressed a desire to take up acting, and this is what the 21-year-old said.

“There were a lot of sounds. There was a lot of ‘Aiyyo!’, but I think she knew that the bug had bitten this poor girl,” Janhvi told Indian Express. "When I was a kid, she really wanted me to become a doctor. I don’t know why, and I was like, ‘I am sorry mom, but I don’t have the intellect to become a doctor.’"

Sridevi, too, had opened up about her reluctance, saying although the film industry wasn't bad, she didn't want her daughter to be a part of it.

"She wanted to do the film and initially, I wasn't in favour," said Sridevi, according to Mid-Day. "I don't think it's a bad industry. I am a creation of this world. But, as a parent, it would give me greater joy to see her married. But her happiness matters more, and if she does well as an actress, I will be a proud mother."

Sridevi, 54, passed away earlier this year. The actress died by accidentally drowning in a bathtub in a Dubai hotel. She was found dead by her husband, Boney Kapoor.

Her career spanned five decades; Sridevi first started working in movies when she was just four.  Her last film was Mom, she played the mother who sets out to avenge the rape of her daughter.
