SPEED: A bold exploration of guilt and connection

From traffic tickets to emotional turns: a powerful new play explores guilt and redemption

SPEED

SPEED : thriller into an emotional journey

Running from Friday, April 4 to Saturday, May 17 at the Bush Theatre, SPEED is the latest boundary-pushing play from writer Mohamed-Zain Dada and acclaimed director Milli Bhatia. Set in the heart of Shepherd’s Bush, this sharp and socially attuned production promises to challenge audiences' perceptions and deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience.

At first glance, SPEED appears to center around something familiar — a speed awareness course, one of those often mundane, state-mandated group sessions for minor driving offenses. But Dada’s storytelling takes a surprising turn, morphing what begins as a routine class into an unexpected and emotionally charged group therapy session.

Under Bhatia’s deft direction, the play peels back the layers of its characters, revealing a raw mix of vulnerability, rage, regret, and connection. As the participants are drawn into increasingly personal revelations, the story explores deeper themes of guilt, accountability, and the emotional baggage we all carry — often speeding through life with little time to pause and reflect.

Performed at Bush Theatre, 7 Uxbridge Road, Shepherd’s Bush, London W12 8LJ, SPEED continues the venue’s tradition of staging bold, contemporary voices that speak directly to the complexities of urban life.
