Shraddha Kapoor confirmed for Batti Gul Meter Chalu

Beating top Bollywood actresses like Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha and Vaani Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor has emerged as the winner in the race to become the leading lady of Shahid Kapoor in his upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Yes, after months of speculations, it has been confirmed that Aashiqui 2 actress will romance Shahid in the social-drama film.

Confirming the news to a leading Indian daily, producer Prernaa Kapoor said, “Shraddha was keen to come onboard because it is a career-defining role. The film is a love story at its core, set in a small town. It is also socially relevant as it highlights the issues of electricity shortage that the common man faces”.


Batti Gul Meter Chalu marks the second collaboration between Shraddha Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor after the critically and commercially successful film Haider in 2014. It won Shahid the Filmfare Best Actor Award.

To be directed by Shree Narayan Singh of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha fame, Batti Gul Meter Chalu is produced by KriArj Entertainment. The film, which is expected to mount floors soon, is slated to release on 31st August 2018.
