Shoojit Sircar: I am sure that October will be a milestone in Banita Sandhu's career

Varun Dhawan and debutante Banita Sandhu are set to star in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming October. Considering the fact that Shoojit Sircar’s Piku and Vicky Donor have been super hits, the expectations of the audience for the third film is high.

Speaking about debutante Banita Sandhu, Shoojit said, ''Everyone was in awe of Banita after the gum commercial that I had directed.''

''While shooting for the ad film, I clicked a picture of Banita and sent it to Juhi Chaturvedi (writer) saying 'She has the potential to fit into the character that we are creating,''' he added.

Interestingly, Sircar, Chaturvedi and producer Ronnie Lahiri first approached Sandhu for the role after finalizing the script and Varun for the film.

''We were sure that she was the girl we should approach. My casting director (Jogi Malang) also knew that she was the right person for this character. Her performance in the film is captivating. I am sure that October will be a milestone in her career.''

The trailer launch will happen next week.

Speaking about Banita, Varun had earlier said, "Banita is someone that I'm so fond of. I can definitely say that she's done an incredible job. The amount that she has given to this film, very rarely an actor gives that. You give so much and then there's that extra percentage where you don't give because it can harm you also. But, she went for it. If I had to give people credit, I'd give dada (Shoojit Sircar) obviously, Juhi and I will give credit to Banita also for myself in the film because if it was not for her, if it was not for her eyes, if it was not for her soul, I would not be able to be me in this film.''

A script that stood out

Ainy Jaffri steps onto the stage with Rukhsati, drawn in by what she describes as a layered and emotionally rich script. The project, written and directed by Saqib Deshmukh, has already seen earlier runs before moving to Tara Theatre.

Jaffri said the opportunity came through her co-actor Hassan Khan, and the strength of the writing made it an immediate draw, particularly as a two-hander that places sustained focus on performance.
