Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna enter third round in mixed doubles

THE mixed doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna on Saturday progressed to the third round of Wimbledon, with a win over Britain duo of Aidan McHugh and Emily Webley-Smith 6-3, 6-1.

Mirza and Bopanna were dominant from the start as the duo sealed the match in straight sets. The Indian pair will now meet Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16 on Tuesday (6).


Earlier on Saturday (3), the women's doubles pair of Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were knocked out of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. They lost their second-round match to Russian pair of Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina 4-6, 3-6.

In the first set, Sania and Bethanie Mattek-Sands put up a tough fight but the Russian duo was too good for them.

With the momentum on their side, Kudermetova and Vesnina clinched the second set easily as Sania and Mattek-Sands pair bowed out of the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals lose coach Dravid ahead of 2026 IPL season

INDIA batting great Rahul Dravid has stepped down as head coach of Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals after just one season with them, the franchise said on Saturday (30).

Dravid, 52, was offered a "broader position" after a structural review of the team set-up but the former Indian captain declined the offer, the franchise said in a statement.

Sri Lanka recall fit-again Hasaranga for Asia Cup

SRI LANKA have picked Wanindu Hasaranga in their Twenty20 squad for the Asia Cup next month though the all-rounder has been ruled out of the tour of Zimbabwe as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Hasaranga sustained the injury during the home series against Bangladesh in July and the injury will keep him out of Sri Lanka's limited-overs tour of Zimbabwe beginning on Friday (29).
