Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna enter third round in mixed doubles

THE mixed doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna on Saturday progressed to the third round of Wimbledon, with a win over Britain duo of Aidan McHugh and Emily Webley-Smith 6-3, 6-1.

Mirza and Bopanna were dominant from the start as the duo sealed the match in straight sets. The Indian pair will now meet Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16 on Tuesday (6).

Earlier on Saturday (3), the women's doubles pair of Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were knocked out of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. They lost their second-round match to Russian pair of Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina 4-6, 3-6.

In the first set, Sania and Bethanie Mattek-Sands put up a tough fight but the Russian duo was too good for them.

With the momentum on their side, Kudermetova and Vesnina clinched the second set easily as Sania and Mattek-Sands pair bowed out of the tournament.
