Paul Danan, best remembered for his role as Sol Patrick in Hollyoaks and his appearances on reality shows like Celebrity Love Island, died in January at the age of 46. An inquest has now concluded that his death was accidental as a result of a dangerous combination of drugs.

On 15 January, Danan was found unresponsive on his sofa with the TV still on at his flat in Brislington, Bristol. His partner, Melissa Crooks, had tried to contact him after they’d gone out drinking the night before. When she couldn’t reach him, a neighbour used a ladder to enter his flat. Emergency services were called, but he was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.

A postmortem revealed that Danan had taken a mix of substances including heroin, cocaine, methadone, pregabalin, codeine, zopiclone, and benzodiazepines. None were in high doses, but together they caused his breathing to slow fatally.

The assistant coroner, Debbie Rookes, confirmed there was no sign that Danan meant to end his life. There was no suicide note, and previous evidence including a non-fatal overdose in May 2024 had also been ruled accidental. Despite his long struggle with addiction and mental health issues, Rookes said there was no indication of suicide, and recorded the cause of death as “misadventure.”

Danan had spent years trying to fight his addiction, even appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show to speak openly about his experiences. He once said he had spent over £1 million (₹10.6 crore) on treatment and had to work every day to stay on the path to recovery. In recent years, he had started offering drama workshops to people dealing with trauma, addiction, and prison experiences.

He was due in court the day after his death to face charges for drug possession and drug-driving in Warrington.

His mother, Beverley Danan, shared a statement during the inquest, saying her son helped many people through their own struggles, even though he couldn’t quite save himself. “His smiling face and love of life will always be remembered,” she said.

Friends, including Calum Best, described Danan as generous, funny, and full of heart. His agents said he was a “beacon of light” who left behind a deep void.

Orlando Bloom told Katy Perry her space trip looked 'ridiculous' say insiders as breakup rumours intensify

Things seem rocky between long-time couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, with new reports suggesting an argument about Perry’s recent space flight may have added fuel to an already burning fire.

The pop star, who joined an all-female crew for a Blue Origin flight in April, reportedly didn’t get the reaction she hoped for from Bloom. A source claims the actor called the trip “embarrassing” and “ridiculous” during a heated exchange, leaving Perry hurt and confused by the lack of support. Despite publicly backing her before the launch and even being photographed at the site, Bloom allegedly changed his tune behind closed doors.

Ed Sheeran teams up with John Mayer and Dave Grohl for rock anthem in Brad Pitt’s 'F1' movie

British singer Ed Sheeran is shifting lanes musically. Known for his emotional ballads and acoustic pop, Sheeran has taken a bold turn into rock territory with Drive, a gritty new single written for Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One film, F1. The track, released ahead of the film’s 27 June global premiere, shows the singer ditching his usual gentle strumming for loud guitar riffs, pounding drums, and full-throttle energy.

A rock track built for speed and the screen

Sheeran shared that he was invited to write a song for the film and immediately knew he wanted it to feel like a proper “driving song”, something loud, intense, and worthy of the speed and thrill of Formula One. He teamed up with guitarist John Mayer and producer Blake Slatkin to bring that vision to life. The result? A track with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Pino Palladino on bass, and Rami Jaffee on keys. It’s an all-star crew of rock musicians who helped Sheeran hit the accelerator.

The remake era is dead: Aamir Khan’s 'Sitare Zameen Par' proves Bollywood must move on

This week sees the release of Aamir Khan’s new film Sitare Zameen Par. Marketed as a ‘spiritual sequel’ to the multi-award-winning 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, the film is in fact a remake of the 2018 Spanish movie Campeones — and it appears to be packed with copied moments from start to finish.

Social media users have already forensically compared the trailer with the original and pointed out identical scenes, alerting Hindi cinema fans to the 2023 American remake (Champions) and a 2022 German version (Weil wir Champions sind).
