Mohit Suri announces his next Malang

After Half Girlfriend (2017), hit filmmaker Mohit Suri is set to call the shots for his next directorial venture titled Malang. The film features Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani and Kunal Khemu in its ensemble cast.

Though the makers are tight-lipped about the storyline of the film, some reports suggest it is a revenge drama with a romantic twist. When asked about the plot of the movie, director Mohit Suri also chose not to reveal much and just said that the film is “intense, edgy and mad”.

Malang is being co-produced by T-Series Films, Luv Ranjan Films and Northern Lights Entertainment. When asked what led him to bankroll the project, T-Series Films’ Bhushan Kumar said, "Malang has the perfect mix of a well-written story, beautiful songs and strong characters. After Aashiqui 2 (2013), which was a defining film in Mohit, Aditya and even my career as a producer, I am glad to back Mohit's next directorial. We have previously worked with Anil, Kunal and Disha and I am happy they are onboard for Malang. We are really excited to get this one rolling”.

Expected to mount the shooting floor in March, Malang is set to roll into theatres on Valentine’s Day 2020.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
