Last seen in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed magnum opus Padmaavat (2018), Deepika Padukone will next star in filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s forthcoming directorial venture. The project, which is still untitled, is inspired from the true-life events of acid-attack survivor Lakshmi Agarwal.
The latest update on the much-talked-about project is that Gulzar has roped in National award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao to play the male lead opposite Deepika Padukone. Though Rao’s character is rumoured to be quite small in length, it will be a pivotal one and the actor has, reportedly, liked it a lot.
“But the role is substantial and has excited Rao. He has not yet worked with Deepika. A role that drives back home a social message has excited the actor. Rao is never excited about the length of the roles. He did a superb cameo in Raabta (2017) which got many people talking, especially for his make-up among other things,” a trade source reveals.
Though Rao has liked his role in the movie, he is yet to sign the project on the dotted line. The makers will make an official announcement as soon as he signs the movie.
The yet-to-be-titled project rolls early next year.
