Lord Swraj Paul receives 'Mahatma Gandhi Honour'

Industrialist Lord Swraj Paul has been honoured by a non-profit NGO for his outstanding efforts to highlight the profile of Non-Resident Indians and their contributions to India.

A spokesman of the NRI Institute said that it honoured Paul, chairman of the Caparo group of industries, on Monday in London at an event held to celebrate its 30 years.

Receiving the plaque, Paul, 87, said "Mahatma Gandhi Honour - to be associated with Mahatma Gandhi's name makes me very proud being Indian and British. I am pleased to make Indians realise what service NRI has done for India".

Paul was Knighted by the British Queen in 1978 and became the Lord Paul of Marylebone and a member of the House of Lords.
