Lipstick Under My Burkha to get a theatrical release in the US!

After impressing the audience in India and raking in spectacular collections at the domestic box office, director Alankrita Shrivastava's critically acclaimed film Lipstick Under My Burkha is all set to hit screens in the US. The movie, which released on 21st July in India, has locked September 15 for its theatrical release in the United States.

Produced by Prakash Jha & JB Angels and distributed by Balaji Motion Pictures, the film features a bunch of talented actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur, Sushant Singh and Vikrant Massey. The black-comedy film explores and talks about women's sexuality in a male dominated society.

Konkona Sen Sharma, who plays a major role in the movie, is extremely happy about its release in the US market. Delighted, Sharma took to her Twitter handle to share the news. She wrote, "So pleased that 'Lipstick...' will release in the US!! Please watch."

Before making an entry into cinemas in India, the film had travelled to various international film festivals and won numerous awards, including the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival, the Oxfam Award for the best film on gender equality at the Mumbai Film Festival. Its world premiere was held at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had earlier refused to certify the film, saying that it was "lady oriented" and had "sexual scenes, abusive words". For its absurd reasoning, the board faced a lot of flak by media and film enthusiasts in the country.
