Keith Vaz must decide his own political future prime minister declares

PRIME minister Theresa May has told reporters that Britain’s longest serving Asian MP should make his own decision about his future political career after newspaper claims he paid for the services of two male sex workers.

“What is important for people is that they feel that they are able to have confidence in their politicians and that’s what we all have a duty to provide for those who elect us,” May said when asked about the report on Monday (September 5).

“What Keith does is for Keith and any decisions he wishes to make are for him but I think that overall what people look for is confidence in their politicians,” she added.

The married father-of-two Mr Vaz has chaired the Home Affairs Select Committee, which monitors crime and drugs policy, for the past for nine years. The committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the status of prostitution in the UK.

The MP has referred the allegations from the Sunday Mirror newspaper to his lawyer but some parliamentary colleagues have said they will urge Mr Vaz to consider his position when he meets them to discuss his future later today (September 6).
