Kareena Kapoor Khan in talks to play ‘Poo’ in a Netflix series

Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was recently seen in Veere Di Wedding (2018), has essayed a variety of roles over the years, but her sassy character ‘Poo’ from Karan Johar’s multi-starrer Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), has etched in our memory so well that it immediately pops up in our head whenever we think of the diva’s best performances.

Whoever saw Bebo’s ultra-glamorous and bold ‘Poo’ avatar in the blockbuster movie could not stop gushing over it. Now you must be wondering why we are talking so much about the character at this hour of the day.

Actually, we have learnt that almost two decades later, Netflix is planning a digital series around a character that is inspired by ‘Poo’. The series will revolve around a 35-year-old woman who will be like ‘Poo’.

If reports are to be believed, the streaming media giant is in talks with Kareena Kapoor Khan to reprise the role in the series.

“Kareena is in talks with Netflix and she has loved the script of a show which will feature her as a woman in her mid-30s. Her character has been inspired from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’s ‘Poo’ which was loved by the audiences. Bebo is quite excited to return as a 35-year-old ‘Poo’ with some new flavours of drama added to it.”

An official announcement is awaited though.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
