John Abraham to reteam with Dishoom director Rohit Dhawan

Rumours were doing the rounds earlier this week that Varun Dhawan was gearing up to reunite with his filmmaker brother Rohit Dhawan to roll out a sequel to their 2016 cop action comedy Dishoom. However, when the Kalank (2019) actor was asked about the same, he denied all rumours and said that he was not starring in Rohit’s next.

The latest we hear that it’s not Varun Dhawan but his Dishoom co-star John Abraham is reteaming with Rohit Dhawan for his next directorial offering. According to fresh reports, Rohit is planning to remake the 2015 Tamil language action film Vedalam in Hindi. The original film starred Ajith Kumar in the lead role. John has come onboard to step into his shoes for the remake. T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar will produce the project.

A source informs an entertainment portal, “Rohit Dhawan’s next is a remake of the South film Vedalam that released in 2015. Being an action film that featured Ajith, Rohit was pretty clear that he too would need an A-list action star for its Bollywood remake. Now John Abraham, who has already proved that he is perfect for an action entertainer, was an obvious choice for it.”

The source went on to add, “Though there still is time before the venture goes on floors, the Vedalam remake is currently being backed by Bhushan Kumar, and will be produced under his banner T-Series. In the past, Bhushan and John have collaborated on multiple projects, and with T-Series coming on board, John’s part as the lead in this actioner was further reinforced.”

Meanwhile, John Abraham is busy shooting for his much-awaited film Satyamev Jayate 2, which is a sequel to his 2018 hit Satyamev Jayate. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the movie is scheduled to release on 2nd October, 2020. Before Satyamev Jayate 2, the action star will be seen in Sanjay Gupta’s gangster drama Mumbai Saga on 19th June, 2020.

‘Really Absurd’: Streaming giants are deleting fan-favourite 'Premalu' to force-feed its Hindi remake

Highlights

  • Premalu has disappeared from JioHotstar just as the trailer for its Hindi remake Prem Keetanu was released.
  • Fans have questioned why the Malayalam hit was removed ahead of the remake’s October theatrical release.
  • The remake’s trailer has already faced criticism from viewers who compared it unfavourably with the original.

There is something particularly awkward about launching a remake while the film it is based on has suddenly become harder to watch.

That is exactly what has happened with Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. The trailer for the Veer Pahariya-starrer dropped on Monday, but instead of simply debating whether the remake can live up to the original, fans found themselves asking another question: where did Premalu go?
