Janhvi Kapoor psyched up about Dostana 2

After years of speculations, ace filmmaker Karan Johar finally confirmed that Dharma Productions is gearing up to take the Dostana (2008) franchise forward. While the original movie had John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra headlining the cast, the sequel is going to feature Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. One more male actor is expected to join the star cast soon.

This is the first time when Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor have teamed up for a film. Apart from the film, the audience is also really looking forward to the fresh paring that Karan Johar has matched. Janhvi, who is presently busy shooting for her next Roohi Afza with Rajkummar Rao, is excited about being a part of Dostana 2. The young actress says that the story of the sequel is a lot of fun.

“I am just really excited to be a part of this film! Not just because of what it is trying to say but also because the story is just so much fun. I am happy we are talking about this subject more and more in cinema and normalising it,” says the newcomer.

Janhvi Kapoor, who made her acting debut with Dharma Productions Dhadak (2018), has an interesting lineup of projects on her platter. Most of her upcoming films are with Dharma Productions only. After Dhadak, her next film with the banner is expected to be a biopic on IAF officer Gunjan Saxena, tentatively titled Kargil Girl.

Janhvi Kapoor is also playing an important role in Karan Johar’s ambitious film Takht. The multi-starrer is expected to take off at the beginning of 2020. Besides her, the historical war drama also features Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar on its ensemble cast. Dostana 2 will be her fourth film with Dharma Productions.

As mentioned above, she will also be seen in Maddock Films’ horror comedy Roohi Afza, alongside National Film Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao.

Two Sinners marks Samir Zaidi’s striking directorial debut

Samir Zaidi, director of 'Two Sinners', emerges as a powerful new voice in Indian film

Indian cinema has a long tradition of discovering new storytellers in unexpected places, and one recent voice that has attracted quiet, steady attention is Samir Zaidi. His debut short film Two Sinners has been travelling across international festivals, earning strong praise for its emotional depth and moral complexity. But what makes Zaidi’s trajectory especially compelling is how organically it has unfolded — grounded not in film school training, but in lived observation, patient apprenticeships and a deep belief in the poetry of everyday life.

Zaidi’s relationship with creativity began well before he ever stepped onto a set. “As a child, I was fascinated by small, fleeting things — the way people spoke, the silences between arguments, the patterns of light on the walls,” he reflects. He didn’t yet have the vocabulary for what he was absorbing, but the instinct was already in place. At 13, he turned to poetry, sensing that the act of shaping emotions into words offered a kind of clarity he couldn’t find elsewhere. “I realised creativity wasn’t something external I had to chase; it was a way of processing the world,” he says. “Whether it was writing or filmmaking, it came from the same impulse: to make sense of what I didn’t fully understand.”
