Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's War enters 300 crore club

Starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles, Yash Raj Films' latest outing War (2019) has inflamed the domestic box-office. Made on a budget of Rs. 150 crores, the action entertainer has raked in over Rs. 300 crores within 19 days of its theatrical release on 2nd October, thus becoming the first film of 2019 to do so.

Noted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the latest feat of the film. He wrote that War has clocked over Rs 300 crore. He also added, “2019 has been a fantastic year for Bollywood and the super success of War reiterates the fact that well made biggies - targeted at PAN India audience - will always be embraced warmly by the paying public... Expecting YRF to green-light War2 soon.”

Taran went on to add, “Also, they pave way for mid-range and metro-centric films, in the process... The biggies cultivate/foster the cinema-going habit, which is pivotal these days, since the digital medium is strengthening its roots in India. Tent pole/event/big ticket films are a must... They get the numbers... They drive the audience to movie halls... They contribute to ticket sales and footfalls... They infuse confidence in the financial sector.”

War, which opened to earth-shattering numbers of Rs 51.60 crore on the day of its release, is also the third Yash Raj Films to cross Rs 300 crore plus net box-office collection after Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Rumours are rife that producer Aditya Chopra has decided to turn War into a franchise. Hrithik Roshan is expected to be retained in the next instalments of the series. However, there is no official confirmation on the same. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand.

‘Really Absurd’: Streaming giants are deleting fan-favourite 'Premalu' to force-feed its Hindi remake

Highlights

  • Premalu has disappeared from JioHotstar just as the trailer for its Hindi remake Prem Keetanu was released.
  • Fans have questioned why the Malayalam hit was removed ahead of the remake’s October theatrical release.
  • The remake’s trailer has already faced criticism from viewers who compared it unfavourably with the original.

There is something particularly awkward about launching a remake while the film it is based on has suddenly become harder to watch.

That is exactly what has happened with Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. The trailer for the Veer Pahariya-starrer dropped on Monday, but instead of simply debating whether the remake can live up to the original, fans found themselves asking another question: where did Premalu go?
