Farhan Akhtar replaced by Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Jigarthanda’ remake?

Fans were really excited when the news came out that the hit Tamil film Jigarthanda was being remade in Hindi with Farhan Akhtar as one of the leads. However, if latest reports are to be believed, Farhan Akhtar is no more associated with the project.

Akhtar, who was last seen in Nikhil Advani’s Lucknow Central, has been replaced by Abhishek Bachchan. Now Junior Bachchan will headline the cast of the black comedy film which also stars superstar Sanjay Dutt.

Reportedly, Farhan himself decided to opt out of the project for reasons best known to him, and now the makers are in talks with Abhishek Bachchan to replace the actor. Bachchan has reportedly loved the script and will sign the project on the dotted lines soon.

“Ever since Farhan decided to not be part of this project, the makers were looking at the right casting. Abhishek has been approached for this film, and he seems to have liked the script,” a source said.

To be directed by Nishikant Kamat, the yet-to-be-titled film is being produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
