Emraan Hashmi commences shoot for his next horror film Ezra in Mauritius

Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi, who is known for such successful films as Murder (2004), Zeher (2005), Gangster (2006) and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (2010) to name a few, has started shooting for his next film Ezra in Mauritius. The makers took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to announce the commencement of the first schedule of the film.

For the unversed, Ezra is an official remake of the hit Malayalam movie of the same name. The original film starred Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role and turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2017. Jay Krishnan, who directed the original movie, has come on board to helm the remake as well.

The remake, which was announced a couple of months ago, will be produced by Panorama Studios Production in association with T-Series Films. Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Kishan Kumar and Abhishek Pathak are backing the project.

Emraan Hashmi, who was last seen in T-Series Films’ Why Cheat India (2019), which failed to do any wonder at the box-office and turned out to be a big loss-making affair for the makers, is not new to the genre of horror. In the past, he has starred in a couple of horror films such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009), Raaz 3 (2012) and Ek Thi Daayan (2013).

Besides Ezra, Hashmi has a number of interesting projects in his hand at the moment. He will soon be seen sharing the screen space with megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Rumi Jaffery’s suspense thriller Chehre. He has also been signed on to play one of the lead characters in filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s upcoming directorial venture Mumbai Saga. The gangster drama also stars John Abraham, Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff in important roles.

UK becomes key hurdle for Paramount's £81 billion Warner Bros. Discovery takeover

  • The UK government is considering intervening in Paramount Skydance's proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Ministers want to assess the deal's impact on media plurality, news diversity and streaming services.
  • Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have until July 6 to respond before a decision is made.

The Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger has cleared several major regulatory hurdles around the world, but the proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) deal is now facing fresh scrutiny in the UK. The British government is considering intervening on public interest grounds, raising the possibility of further delays to one of the largest media transactions in recent years.

The potential intervention centres on concerns over media plurality, news diversity and the future of television and streaming services available to UK audiences. If ministers decide to proceed, the transaction could face a more detailed investigation despite already receiving approvals in markets including the US, China, Australia, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia.
