Anurag Kashyap: One doesn’t become patriotic only by watching Republic Day parade or chanting Jai Hind loudly’

In a recent interview, well-known filmmaker Anurag Kashyap opened up about the general perception that he has issues with the ruling Indian party, BJP.

“People think I only have an issue with BJP, but that is not the case. When Congress was in power, I was fighting Congress, and now that BJP is in power, I am raising my issues with them. I only fight those in power, political parties have never been my target,” he said during an interview with popular YouTuber Samdish Bhatia

Talking about patriotism, Kashyap said that one does not become patriotic only by watching the Republic Day parade or chanting ‘Jai Hind’ loudly. “Just by watching the parade, or standing before the national anthem gets played out in theatres, or saying Jai Hind at every chance you get, you don’t become patriotic,” he said.

The filmmaker went on to add that he loves his country a lot and hence would never leave it. “I love India a lot, so I cannot leave it. All my stories, culture, and food, which I take great pleasure in, is based here. I do not have the courage to just pack up my bags one day and leave my country. It would be my last resort,” the director added.

It is no secret that Anurag Kashyap is overjoyed with the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Pathaan (2023). Though the two have never worked together, the filmmaker respects the superstar a lot as he also happens to be his college senior.

When asked about working with SRK, he said, “Yes, I have thought of working with him a lot of times. He has been my college senior and whenever he calls, I stand up while I pick up the call. He is like a big brother to me. He has given up on me and he keeps telling me what not to do. He told me why I should not be on Twitter.” Anurag also added, “Everybody who cares about me, wants me to see life the way they do.”
