Anupam Kher, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and others get invited by The Academy

Indians are making a mark not just in their country but even internationally. While many films are getting a lot of appreciation at international film festivals and making a mark at the box office all around the world, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited some of the most talented personalities of India as their members.

The list includes veteran actor Anupam Kher, directors Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, and Ritesh Batra, VFX artists Sherry Bharda and Srinivas Mohan, Indian origin actress Archie Punjabi and Late Night director Nisha Ganatra.


Kher has been in the industry from the past 35 years. He has given some commendable performances and has also won many awards. Anurag Kashyap is known for his dark films, something that not many filmmakers like to explore. Zoya Akhtar is one director who very well understands the human emotion and portrays it beautifully on the big screen through her movies.

The official Twitter handle of The Academy tweeted, “Best. Day. Ever. We're excited to invite these 842 inspiring storytellers to the Academy. Tweet your welcome using #WeAreTheAcademy today.”

Anurag Kashyap, known for his movies like Gangs Of Wasseypur, Dev D, Ugly, Black Friday, Manmarziyaan and others, tweeted, “#WeAreTheAcademy.”

Anupam Kher has been invited in the actor’s category, Zoya in the director’s category, Kashyap in the Short Films and Feature Animation category and Ritesh Batra in the writer’s category.

On their website, The Academy has stated that they have invited members from 59 countries and 50 percent of them are women. This year they have invited 842 members from which 21 are Oscar winners and 82 members are Oscar nominees. This is not the first time when Indian celebrities have been invited by the Oscars. In 2018, they had invited 928 members and the list included Indian names like Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu and Madhuri Dixit.

Asian stock markets led a global rally on Wednesday as shares held near record levels, while precious metals extended their bullish momentum to unprecedented highs as 2025 draws to a close.

The broadest Asia-Pacific index outside Japan rose 0.4 per cent, capping a 26 per cent gain for the year, its strongest performance since 2017.
