Akshay Kumar confirms digital debut; signs Amazon Prime Original The End

After wooing cinephiles with a series of Bollywood blockbusters, Indian superstar Akshay Kumar is now set to impress the global audience with his forthcoming Amazon Prime Original, The End (working title). The actor confirmed his digital debut with the high-profile project on Tuesday in Mumbai.

The show will have a perfect mix of everything: action, suspense and thriller. Abundantia Entertainment, which has previously worked with the superstar on such successful films as Airlift (2016) and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), will produce The End for Amazon Prime Video. They are also producing the Abhishek Bachchan starrer Breathe 2 for the streaming media giant after delivering a global hit in the form of Breathe.

“The scale at which ‘The End’ is being conceived is enormous and speaks of our passion for creating breakout programming across genres,” said Jennifer Salke, Head, Amazon Studios.

When asked what led him to join digital bandwagon, Akshay Kumar said, “My Son Aarav wanted me to work on digital platform and here I am.”

The announcement comes after Amazon revealed six new Indian originals last month at TCA. Some of these new originals include romantic musical Bandish Bandits, crime thriller The Last Hour, an untitled investigative thriller from Sudip Sharma and a youth-based political drama from successful filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar.

Charli XCX Wuthering Heights drops her straight into a new lane that is moodier, louder in emotion, and stitched to a film that’s already carrying weight. The singer’s new album, which ties into Emerald Fennell’s adaptation, is clearly a sharp pivot from the neon chaos of Brat. You hear that in Chains of Love, the new single, and in the way she talks about this chapter in her notes on the Charli XCX new album plans.
