Yoga prodigy bends way to Euro Asian title glory

AN EIGHT-year-old boy from the UK won the gold medal in a top yoga championship last month.

Ishwar Sharma, from Sevenoaks, Kent, finished in first place at the In­ternational Euro Asian yoga champi­onship on May 12.


The event was held in Antayla, Tur­key, with top athletes from across the globe takinhg part.

Sharma competed with 11 coun­tries from Asia and Europe across all age groups.

His father, Dr Vishwanath, won the silver medal in the same event. He said he was “excited and extremely happy” by his son’s achievement.

Currently, Sharma has held the ti­tle of the Under-11 UK national yoga champion for two years and was also the Under-8 title-holder in both indi­vidual and artistic yoga.

The youngster performs with his father to promote yoga to inspire children and adults to take it up as a daily practice. The pair regularly showcase Vedic yoga with choreogra­phy to music at various national and international events.

Having already performed in an array of charity events, Sharma has also taken part in the World Yoga Championship in Italy, World Games in Nepal, and the European Yoga Sport Cup 2017 championship in Prague.

He also competed in the World Students Games in Canada, which took place last week.

Third British national linked to hantavirus outbreak on MV Hondius

A THIRD British national has been diagnosed with suspected hantavirus linked to an outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius, health officials said on Friday.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said the “additional suspected case of a British national” was on the remote South Atlantic island of Tristan da Cunha.
