Varun Dhawan has played many different characters on the big screen. But for the first time, we will get to see him playing the role of an army officer. The actor has been roped in to play the character of Arun Khetarpal in Sriram Raghavan’s next.

Varun took to Twitter to inform his fans about it. He tweeted, “Happy birthday 2/lt #ArunKhetarpal. It was always my dream to play a soldier of INDIA. #SriramRaghavan cant wait to bring on screen the spectacular tale of 2/LT #ArunKhetarpal. Produced by #DineshVijan.Hope to make you proud #mukeshkhetarpal and #Poonahorse. ??”

Arun Khetarpal was a brave officer who lost his life during the Battle of Basantar in the Battlefield of Shakargarh during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. He was honoured with Param Vir Chakra posthumous.

Well, Varun and Sriram have worked together in the film Badlapur which is clearly one of the best performances of the actor. It will surely be interesting to watch Varun as an army officer on the big screen.

Apart from the Sriram Raghavan directorial, Varun has movies like Street Dancer and Coolie No. 1 in his kitty. While the former will release during Republic Day weekend next year, the latter is slated to hit the screens on 1st May 2020.

Interestingly, we will get to see three biopics on army officers next year. While Varun will be seen as Arun Khetarpal, Sidharth Malhotra will be playing the character of Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah and Vicky Kaushal will be portraying the role of Sam Manekshaw on the big screen.

Sidharth and Vicky have played the role of army officers in their previous films, Aiyaary and Uri: The Surgical Strike respectively.
