Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan to commence Coolie No. 1 shoot in August

The ultimate king of madcap comedies, David Dhawan is set to wield the megaphone once again. The celebrated filmmaker is gearing up to remake one of his career’s most successful films, Coolie No. 1 (1995). On the occasion of his son Varun Dhawan's 32nd birthday, he shared the exciting news with fans.

While the original film starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles, the remake will be headlined by Varun Dhawan and newcomer Sara Ali Khan. The rest of the cast will be announced later. The film begins production in August.

The official statement issued by the makers read: "It's official. After 25 years, David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani come back together to adapt their timeless comedy, Coolie No. 1. The film, starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, begins shoot this August. This will be David and Varun's next collaboration. Get set for a rollicking time at movies!"

Varun Dhawan, who is considered one of the most successful stars from the current generation, has previously delivered two mega-hits with his filmmaker father – Main Tere Hero (2014) and Judwaa 2 (2017). Coolie No. 1 will mark their third collaboration.

As for Sara Ali Khan, she impressed one and all with her terrific acting chops in her debut film, Kedarnath (2018), which was followed by another blockbuster, Simmba (2018). She is presently busy shooting for director Imtiaz Ali’s next film, which pairs her opposite Kartik Aaryan.

UK becomes key hurdle for Paramount's £81 billion Warner Bros. Discovery takeover

  • The UK government is considering intervening in Paramount Skydance's proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Ministers want to assess the deal's impact on media plurality, news diversity and streaming services.
  • Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have until July 6 to respond before a decision is made.

The Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger has cleared several major regulatory hurdles around the world, but the proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) deal is now facing fresh scrutiny in the UK. The British government is considering intervening on public interest grounds, raising the possibility of further delays to one of the largest media transactions in recent years.

The potential intervention centres on concerns over media plurality, news diversity and the future of television and streaming services available to UK audiences. If ministers decide to proceed, the transaction could face a more detailed investigation despite already receiving approvals in markets including the US, China, Australia, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia.
