The Beatles’ new song ‘Now and Then’ set to top UK chart

The Beatles are set to add one more feather to their cap as their latest track is hours away from becoming the No. 1 single on the UK chart.

Now and Then” is set to be their 18th No. 1 single after their last recorded song outsold the rest of the top five combined in its opening weekend.

Yes, the last song from John, Paul, George, and Ringo would become their landmark 18th UK chart-topper, and their first in 54 years, since The Ballad of John and Yoko in 1969.

“Now and Then” debuted at Number 42 in the UK last week based on just 10 hours of sales, but is now expected to jump 41 places to the top of the Official Singles Chart when Friday’s chart is announced on BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart.

Martin Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of Official Charts, says, "What a week it will be if The Beatles return with a Number 1 in the Official Singles Chart. The Fab Four are a key part of the history of British music and the UK’s charts, so to have returned with such a huge impact is incredible.”

On the day of its release last Thursday, “Now and Then” was named BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record.

The song is all-love, McCartney told Radio 1. “Just a loving feeling,” he said of the recording, “because that’s often what we were trying to do with our records, we were trying to spread love. And in this one, it is very poignant. It’s John talking about ‘I miss you’ and stuff like that so, I think emotion, that would be the keyword for people to take away from it, ‘emotion’.”

‘Really Absurd’: Streaming giants are deleting fan-favourite 'Premalu' to force-feed its Hindi remake

Highlights

  • Premalu has disappeared from JioHotstar just as the trailer for its Hindi remake Prem Keetanu was released.
  • Fans have questioned why the Malayalam hit was removed ahead of the remake’s October theatrical release.
  • The remake’s trailer has already faced criticism from viewers who compared it unfavourably with the original.

There is something particularly awkward about launching a remake while the film it is based on has suddenly become harder to watch.

That is exactly what has happened with Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. The trailer for the Veer Pahariya-starrer dropped on Monday, but instead of simply debating whether the remake can live up to the original, fans found themselves asking another question: where did Premalu go?
