Shweta Tiwari on her second failed marriage

Shweta Tiwari, who is regarded as one of the most successful actresses on Indian television, is making her comeback to the small screen. She plays the lead character in Sony Entertainment Television’s upcoming show Mere Dad Ki Dulhan alongside popular television actor Varun Badola.

Apart from her show, Tiwari is also hitting headlines for her second failed marriage with actor Abhinav Kohli. For the unversed, the actress was previously married to actor Raja Chaudhary. The couple, who has a daughter named Palak, separated in 2007 after the actress accused Chaudhary of domestic violence.

In 2013, Shweta married actor Abhinav Kohli and the couple had a son in 2016. Reports of problems in their paradise first surfaced in media in 2017. In August 2019, Tiwari filed a complaint of domestic violence against Kohli.

During the promotions of her comeback show Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, the actress has been asked a lot about her second failed marriage. Lashing out at all those questioning her, Shweta told a publication, “I want to ask those people who are saying how can her marriage go wrong even for the second time. I want to ask them why can’t things go wrong. At least, I have the courage to face it and come out in open and talk about the problem. Whatever, I am doing today is for the betterment of my family and my kids. There are so many people out there who are married but still have boyfriend and girlfriends. I think I am better than them at least I have guts to come out and say dude I don’t want to stay with you. I am doing all this without thinking people would judge me or what you people are going to write about me.”

The actress further added, “I want to send message across to all the females who shy away from talking about troubles in their married life because they fear of being judged. They will go through the pain and will silently tolerate everything and won’t give good life to their kids. So, ladies please don’t bear the pain and come out and talk about it.”

Exclusive: Mohini Dey on breaking barriers in music — “I wasn’t hired for being a woman, I was hired because I deliver”

Mohini Dey laughs down the line, a deep, unfiltered chuckle that cuts through the noise. “Ronnie Scott’s? With my band, playing my music? That’s crazy,” she says, still letting it sink in. Speaking exclusively to Eastern Eye from Los Angeles, where she recently wrapped a show at the Hollywood Bowl with Willow Smith, the 28-year-old bassist is now preparing for her first headline performance in the UK this July.

For Dey, who grew up riding Mumbai’s local trains with a Walkman and no room for childhood distractions, this moment feels both improbable and hard-earned. It’s the kind of full-circle milestone that doesn’t come from luck, but from surviving, insisting, and showing up anyway.
