Seminar on how religious change is shaping society

A SENIOR demographer at Pew Research Centre is set to enlighten audience with a talk on how religious change is shaping society on July 4.

Contrad Hackett, associate director of research and senior demographer at Pew Research Centre, will draw on his work and will reveal the state of religious identity and commitment in Europe.


He will also talk about how demography is changing the religious landscape in Europe and Britain, and how these changes are  likely to play out.

Other speakers include Linda Woodhead, Professor in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion, and Director of the Institute for Social Futures at Lancaster University; Sunder Katwala, Director of British Future; David Voas, Professor of Social Science and Head of Department at UCL; Akeela Ahmed, social entrepreneur and activist; and Bobby Duffy, Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Policy Institute, King's College London (chair).

The event is free and it will be held at Anatomy Lecture Theatre, King's Building. Admission is on a first come, first served basis and it will be followed by a drinks reception.

An INDIAN doctoral student from Tamil Nadu, who moved to Scotland on a student visa four years ago, has been elected to the Scottish Parliament, triggering debate around immigration, identity and political representation in the UK.

Q Manivannan, who identifies as non-binary and says they represent “diversity in power”, is among the newest members of the Scottish Parliament, also known as Holyrood.
