As expected Aamir Khan Productions' latest offering Secret Superstar has started attracting niche audience in droves. The film, which entered theatres on 19th October, received an extraordinary response from critics and the same has started translating into footfalls in cinema halls across the country.
On its opening day, the movie pocketed INR. 4.80 crores, which was a decent collection keeping the subject and its target audience in mind. The movie was never promoted as a mass entertainer and always targeted a certain segment of the audience from day one.
With the help of a strong word of mouth, the movie drew more viewers on day two. Resultantly its collection swelled to INR 9.30 crores, witnessing a remarkable jump at the ticket window. The film almost doubled its income on Friday, taking the total collection to INR 14.10 crores.
Secret Superstar is a story of a teenage girl named Insiya, who is willing to go to any extent to fulfil her dreams of becoming a singer. Hailing from a conservative Muslim family, she starts her journey by uploading her singing videos on YouTube under the confinement of anonymity. The film also features Aamir Khan in a quirky avatar as Shakti Kumar.
Produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao under the banner name of Aamir Khan Productions, Zee Studios, and Akash Chawla, Secret Superstar is written and directed by Advait Chandan. It is expected to witness an impressive growth over the weekend.
