Ram Murali wins EasternEye Award for Crime Fiction

A Debut Novel Captures Readers and Critics Alike, Marking the Arrival of a Fresh Voice in Crime Fiction

Ram Murali wins EasternEye Award for Crime Fiction

At the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture and Theatre Awards (ACTAs) 2025, Ram Murali was honoured with the Eastern Eye Award for Crime Fiction for his gripping debut novel Death in the Air. This prestigious award recognises outstanding talent in crime writing, celebrating Murali’s compelling narrative, vivid settings, and the fresh voice he brings to the genre.

Murali’s journey to becoming an acclaimed author is unconventional. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Columbia Law School, the Sorbonne, and the University of Cambridge, he began his career practising law in London and Paris. Later, he moved into the world of film and television, working across development, production, and distribution. This diverse background informs his writing, which skilfully blends legal insight with cinematic storytelling.

Death in the Air came about unexpectedly, but its success has marked a significant new chapter in Murali’s career. The novel showcases his talent for crafting suspenseful, immersive crime fiction that captivates readers.

Although currently based in London, Murali is a true global citizen. Born in New York City and holding dual citizenship in the US and France, he has travelled to over 100 countries, with Mexico standing out as his favourite destination. When he is not writing, he enjoys reading, watching cooking shows, and catching up on sleep. Looking ahead, he is considering relocating to somewhere sunnier—perhaps the Caribbean—and welcomes any suggestions.

Ram Murali’s ACTA win is a testament to his creative versatility and fresh perspective, proving that great crime fiction can emerge from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
