Poster of Merey Pyarey Prime Minister unveiled

Trend of social-drama films is gaining popularity in Bollywood. After Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, another Hindi film revolving around the same subject is set to arrive in cinemas soon.

On the World Toilet Day 2017, award-winning Indian filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra rolled out the first poster of his upcoming film titled Merey Pyarey Prime Minister.

The director took to micro-blogging site Twitter to tweet the poster of the movie. The first poster of the film features a young boy pointing his finger towards a sketch of a toilet on a wall. Standing beside him is his mother.

Inspired by a true story, the film revolves around 4 slum kids of Mumbai. In the film, one of the kids wants to make a toilet for his single mother who has to defecate in the open like other women in the slum. He takes the responsibility to build a toilet and makes an appeal to the Prime Minister. He then travels all the way to the national capital to convey his message.

Merey Pyarey Prime Minister features National Award winning Marathi film actress Anjali Patil as the lead.

The film has been shot across real locations of the slums of Ghatkopar followed by Powai in Mumbai.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
