Man Arrested For Allegedly Raping, Robing British Woman In India

Indian police arrested a man on Friday (21) for allegedly raping and robing a British woman tourist near Palolem beach in India’s western state Goa during early hours of Thursday (20).

The arrested accused has been identified as Ramchandrappa (30) and is a resident of country’s eastern sate, Tamil Nadu.


According Goa police, the UK citizen was robbed of Rs 20, 000 cash, her passport, and some personal belongings. The belongings of the victim except cash were found 50 meters away from the crime spot.

The Goa police arrested the accused from Margao Railway station based on the description provided by the victim and CCTV footage.

The unfortunate incident was occurred when the lady was returning from Canacona Railway station to Palolem beach area where she was stayed.

“The incident took place at 4 am local time (22:30 GMT) in Canacona town. The woman complained to the police that while she was walking from the Canacona railway station towards the beach, an unidentified person forcibly took her to a roadside where he raped her,” police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai said.

A case has been registered under the sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Canacona police station against the accused.

The British High Commission in New Delhi said consular staff were supporting the woman, “and are continuing to do all we can to assist her.”
