John cancels the idea of remaking The Invisible Guest

A few weeks ago, there were reports that actor-producer John Abraham had bought the remakes rights of the Spanish suspense thriller film, The Invisible Guest, and that he was keen to rope in Pink star Taapsee Pannu as the female lead.

However, if latest media reports are to be believed, John has dropped the idea of remaking the film, the reason being that the actor-producer was about to produce the film along with Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor’s KriArj Entertainment. But Prernaa bowed out of the project after some time and now, we hear, that the project is not in the works.

According to a source, “John has shelved the idea of making the film. There was a lot of disagreement on the film, right from the beginning. Now, John plans to produce another thriller next year, details of which aren’t out yet.”

But it seems that the co-producers' exit from the project was not the only reason it is being scrapped. “There are no takers for the film with John and Taapsee. Nobody wants to buy the film, which would mean the film, if made, can run into huge losses for John, if it doesn’t work. Also, the whole suspense and twist in the story is out so it didn’t make sense anymore,” another source adds.

John is currently busy with his next film Parmanu: The Story Of Pokharan which is slated to release in February.

Amazon’s ‘God of War’ reset proves Hollywood can’t get video game adaptations right

Highlights

  • Dave Bautista is taking over as Kratos after Ryan Hurst's injury forced Amazon to recast the role.
  • The series is effectively starting again, with none of the footage from the original production being used.
  • The major reset puts fresh pressure on Amazon's attempt to adapt one of gaming's most recognisable franchises.

Hollywood's relationship with video game adaptations has changed considerably in recent years. Shows such as The Last of Us and Fallout have demonstrated that games can translate successfully to television when their characters and worlds are treated with care. Amazon's God of War, however, has already encountered a production setback that makes its journey to the screen considerably more complicated.

Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Kratos in the Prime Video series after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast in the role, suffered a serious on-set injury. Hurst reportedly tore his bicep while performing a stunt in June, around four months into filming. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television subsequently decided to recast the central role.
