Indian court upholds death sentences over 2012 Delhi gang-rape

India is the world’s most dangerous country for women due to the high risk of sexual violence and being forced into slave labour, according to a Thomson Reuters Foundation survey

India’s Supreme Court on Monday (9) upheld death sentences for three men over the infamous gang-rape and murder of a woman in New Delhi in 2012 that sparked national protests and soul-searching. Jyoti Singh, a physiotherapy student, was raped and left for dead by a gang of five men and a teenager on a bus in New Delhi in December 2012. “The review petition of all the three convicts has been rejected,” AP Singh, a lawyer for the defendants, told reporters.
