Dream Girl movie review: This Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is a laugh riot from beginning to end

When was the last time when you watched a Hindi film and laughed out loud throughout the movie? Well, if you don’t remember don’t worry as Raaj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl will make you laugh so much that there will be tears in your eyes and your cheeks might start paining.

Dream Girl is about Karam (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is unemployed and to earn some money he plays the role of Seeta and Radha in Ram Leela and Krishna Leela (theatre plays). Since childhood, he has a talent of speaking in a girl’s voice. Well, soon Karam gets a job in a friendship call center where he starts talking to people in a female voice by using the name Pooja. Thanks to Pooja’s melodious voice a few men and even a woman fall in love with her. Now how Karam will tackle all these chaos, takes the story forward and we are left laughing for those 132 minutes.

The movie is written and directed by Raaj Shaandilya, and he has come up with one of the funniest films in recent times. We actually don’t get to see such hilarious movies nowadays on the big screen. Shaandilyaa makes his directorial debut with Dream Girl and we must say that he rightly connects with the audiences. The movie is high-on entertainment but also gives out a message. There are some scenes that are very well written, especially, the one where Ayushmann’s character talks about Draupadi’s (female character from Mahabharata) consent and connects it with the #MeToo movement. A special mention to the dialogues of the film, they are hilarious, especially the one-liners.

Coming to performances, we have to say that this is one of the best ensemble cast films we have seen in recent times. Ayushmann Khurrana has once again given an award-winning performance. It’s a character that could have gone overboard, but Ayushmann has performed brilliantly. Maybe he should be ready for one more National Award. Nushrat Bharucha has less screen time here, but she proves that she doesn’t need a full-fledged role to prove her acting prowess. The actress steals the show whenever she appears on the big screen.

Manjot Singh is amazing in the movie. Watch out for his ‘Husn’ scene. LOL! Annu Kapoor is mind-blowing, Abhishek Banerjee is excellent, Vijay Raaz is damn good, Raj Bhansali as Tota is simply outstanding and Nidhi Bhist as Roma is wow.

Talking about the music, after a long time, we have a perfect album here with dance numbers and a romantic track. You will be leaving the theatres humming Radhe Radhe and Dil Ka Telephone.

Overall, Dream Girl is a must-watch. It’s a movie that will make you go rolling on the floor laughing.

Ratings: 4/5

P.S. We must say that Ayushmann, lehenge mein bada hie keher lagta hai...

Pub hotel group beat luxury chains in UK guest satisfaction survey

Highlights

  • Coaching Inn Group scores 81 per cent customer satisfaction, beating Marriott and Hilton.
  • Wetherspoon Hotels named best value at £70 per night.
  • Britannia Hotels ranks bottom for 12th consecutive year with 44 per cent score.
A traditional pub hotel group has outperformed luxury international chains in the UK's largest guest satisfaction survey, while one major operator continues its decade-long streak at the bottom of the rankings.
The Coaching Inn Group, comprising 36 relaxed inn-style hotels in historic buildings across beauty spots and market towns, achieved the highest customer score of 81per cent among large chains in Which?'s annual hotel survey. The group earned five stars for customer service and accuracy of descriptions, with guests praising its "lovely locations and excellent food and service.
"The survey, conducted amongst 4,631 guests, asked respondents to rate their stays across eight categories including cleanliness, customer service, breakfast quality, bed comfort and value for money. At an average £128 per night, Coaching Inn demonstrated that mid-range pricing with consistent quality appeals to British travellers.
J D Wetherspoon Hotels claimed both the Which? Recommended Provider status (WRPs) and Great Value badge for the first time, offering rooms at just £70 per night while maintaining four-star ratings across most categories. Guests described their stays as "clean, comfortable and good value.
"Among boutique chains, Hotel Indigo scored 79 per cent with its neighbourhood-inspired design, while InterContinental achieved 80per cent despite charging over £300 per night, and the chain missed WRP status for this reason.

Budget brands decline

However, Premier Inn, long considered Britain's reliable budget choice, lost its recommended status this year. Despite maintaining comfortable beds, guests reported "standards were slipping" and prices "no longer budget levels" at an average £94 per night.

The survey's biggest disappointment remains Britannia Hotels, scoring just 44 per cent and one star for bedroom and bathroom quality. This marks twelve consecutive years at the bottom, with guests at properties like Folkestone's Grand Burstin calling it a total dive.
