Akshay Kumar thanks audiences for overwhelming response to Good Newwz

Dharma Productions’ latest offering Good Newwz (2019) has set the box-office on fire. Released on 27th December, the dramedy has been performing exceptionally well not only in India but also across the world.

Superstar Akshay Kumar, who plays the lead role in the movie alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, thanked audiences for their overwhelming response to Good Newwz which revolves around two couples trying to have a baby through IVF.

"We are extremely overwhelmed with the response coming in for Good Newwz as it is a subject which had to be shared with the audience. It is an important subject and I thank the viewers not only in India but also overseas that they have accepted us with open hearts. With this film, I am confident that a movie with good messaging and subject will always fetch success and appreciation," said the superstar.

Good Newwz, which has been directed by debutant filmmaker Raj Mehta, has closed out its first week with an impressive ₹ 127.90 crore in its pocket. Well-known trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter that with no major film this week, Good Newwz has an advantage of one more week. It should hit ₹ 150 crore in weekend 2 and target ₹ 200 crore can be achieved if it trends well on weekdays, which, in turn, will help programming in week 3, when Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Chhapaak and Darbar arrive.

In the international market, Good Newwz has already crossed the lifetime business of Kumar’s previous films like Kesari (2019), Gold (2018), Padman (2019), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Jolly LLB 2 (2017) and Rustom (2016). The superstar will next be seen in Laxmmi Bomb.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
