12 arrested after London terror attacks

British counter-terrorism police today arrested 12 suspects after a raid at a home of one of the London Bridge terror attackers in East London.

A spokesman of the British counter-terrorism police said the arrests were made following a raid on a block of flats in Barking. The home belonged to one of the suspects and was raided hours after the attack.

Controlled explosions were also carried out at the flat in Barking this morning, the BBC reported.

According to neighbours, the dead attacker had lived there for about three years and was married with two children.

The spokesman said "searches of a number of addresses in Barking are continuing."

Three knife-wielding attackers wearing fake suicide vests unleashed a terror rampage in the British capital last night, plowing a van into pedestrians on the iconic London Bridge before stabbing revellers in nearby Borough market, killing seven people and injuring 48 others.

The three attackers were shot dead just eight minutes after police received a 999 call about the incident.

The attack was the third deadly terror attack in Britain in three months and came just days ahead of the UK general election to be held on June 8.

UK police watchdogs have ruled that four Northamptonshire Police officers should face misconduct proceedings over their handling of domestic abuse allegations made by Harshita Brella, the 24-year-old Indian woman later found murdered in London. Brella’s husband, Pankaj Lamba, remains the main suspect and is believed to have fled to India.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said on Monday that its investigation found failings in how the force responded after Brella contacted police on August ( 29) last year to report abuse by Lamba at their home in Corby, Northamptonshire. She had moved to the UK only months earlier after marrying Lamba in an arranged marriage.

Lamba was arrested on 3 September ,2024 and released on police bail with conditions not to contact his wife. He was also issued with a Domestic Violence Protection Order. However, on November (14) last year, Brella’s body was discovered in the boot of a Vauxhall Corsa in Ilford, east London. Police believe she was strangled at their home days earlier, on the evening of November(10) before her body was driven to the capital.
