Woman who filmed ex-boyfriend dying on Snapchat is jailed for 14 years

A 21-year-old woman who filmed her ex-boyfriend dying and then posted the video on Snapchat has been sentenced to 14 years for manslaughter.

Fatima Khan of Jersey Road, Ilford, was found guilty of orchestrating the murder of 18-year-old Khalid Saif and she was sentenced at the Old Bailey.

"Fatimah used social media to bring about a confrontation between two young men vying for her affection," detective chief inspector Mark Cranwell from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command was quoted as saying by the media. "She lured Khalid to a spot pre-arranged with the suspect who was named in court as Raza Khan."

"She posted a series of antagonising posts which she knew full well could, at the very least, result in serious harm coming to Khalid.

"When Khalid lay dying after being stabbed, her first thought was to capture the moment for social media - a truly perverse and callous course of action. Khalid was only 18 years old when he was killed and he had his whole life ahead of him.

"A petty argument over rival affections has escalated with a tragic outcome. I hope today's conviction gives Khalid's family some measure of comfort and closure.

"I would also like to praise DS Franco Massimo, DC Nick Neale and DC David Field were all commended by Judge Michael Popolski for unravelling this challenging and complex case.

"Raza Khan is wanted for Khalid's murder. Our efforts to bring him in for questioning continue. If you know where Khan is, I'd urge you to do the right thing and contact the police on 020 8721 4054 or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111. Perhaps you have not come forward with information in the past due to a number of reasons, none of that matters. All that matters is that all those responsible for taking a young man's life are brought to justice."

The incident took place on 1 December 2016 and following an altercation, Khalid was found with stab injuries. He was taken to a west London hospital where he died a short time later.

Khalid had been in an on-and-off romance with Fatimah for about two years when a man named Raza Khan entered the picture. Khalid and Raza disliked each other and had fought in the past over Fatimah.

On the evening of 1 December, Khalid visited Fatimah at her workplace and an argument broke out between the two. Fatimah filmed parts of their argument and posted it on Snapchat where she alleged that Khalid threatened her with a gun.

Fatimah also alerted Raza about the argument she was having with Khalid, and Raza soon arrived where the duo was headed.

Upon arriving, Raza went and spoke to Fatimah before heading over to Khalid. The two got into an altercation that led to Khalid being stabbed.
