War director Siddharth Anand on making a two-hero film: It’s like handling two wives together

Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff will be seen together for the first time on the big screen in YRF’s War. We recently met the director of the film, Siddharth Anand, and spoke to him about the movie and casting.

While talking about the cast, Siddharth said, “My first choice was Hrithik because with him I have had an association (Bang Bang). I wanted that my next film should be with Hrithik and I was writing for him only. So, fortunately, Hrithik liked the script and we were sure that if Hrithik is there then we have to get Tiger in it. We had this story of mentor and protégé, where the protégé respects his mentor and gets inspired by him. So, in real life, Tiger is like that. So, I don’t have to explain the audience much because they have accepted that Tiger is Hrithik’s protégé and Hrithik is Tiger’s idol.”

When probed that before Tiger did he think about casting any other actor, the filmmaker said, “Tiger was the first choice and the only choice. I think we all were clear about it. From Adi (Aditya Chopra) to Hrithik to me, we were clear that it will be Tiger only. We were confident about it that he won’t say no. But you never know stars, so, we always had that he might say no and we decided to think about it later if he says no.”

Well, there are rumours that Tiger’s character comes in the movie after an hour. When Siddharth was asked about it, he denied it and revealed that Tiger comes before Hrithik in the film.

When asked him how he handled the persona of both of the actors, Siddharth said, “It is very difficult to make a two-hero film; it’s like handling two wives together. If you give more attention to one then another one will get upset, so you have to balance it.”

Talking about the screen time, he said, “That also we have to balance. Like in a wedding there’s prenuptial, here there’s a script (laughs). So, in the script itself, it has to be clear that this much is one’s screen time.”

Also starring Vaani Kapoor, War is slated to hit the screens on 2nd October 2019.
