Venkaiah Naidu to speak in US to commemorate Vivekananda's Chicago speech

M Venkaiah Naidu is set to address people of Indian origin in Chicago at an event to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's speech at the Parliament of Religions in 1893.    

This will be Naidu’s first visit to the US as India’s vice-president.


The event to commemorate Vivekananda's speech is open to the public and Naidu is expected to talk about the relevance of teachings of Vivekananda in the contemporary world.

The event will be held on the last day of the World Hindu Congress (WHC), which begins on September 7 and lasts till September 9.  

"The vice president is coming to the programme organised to commemorate the 125th anniversary speech of Swami Vivekananda in Chicago in 1893," convener, WHC, Abhaya Asthana, told news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) on Monday (03).  

The WHC is held every four years and more than 2,500 Hindus from over 80 countries are expected to attend the event. The WHC is being organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad America.
