Saand Ki Aankh movie review: Not Bronze and Silver, this Taapsee and Bhumi starrer deserves Gold

To inspire and motivate their daughter and granddaughter, Prakashi Tomar and Chandro Tomar picked up guns in their 60s. They won many medals for their shooting skills and surely became an inspiration for many women in India. But, of course, their journey from the common village women to becoming the famous Shooter Dadis wasn’t an easy one.

Tushar Hiranandani gets the journey of these two women on the big screen with his directorial debut Saand Ki Aankh. The movie stars Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles, and well, this journey of Shooter Dadis is clearly a must-watch.

The young Prakashi and Chandro are married in Tomar family where like most of the rural areas in India, patriarchy is at its peak. They cook, work in a brick factory, at night make their husbands happy in bed and then deliver kids, that’s their routine. Prakashi and Chandro get old in that atmosphere, but they don’t want the same thing to happen with their daughter and granddaughter.

Well, Saand Ki Aankh is a very inspiring story, but the writers and the director haven’t taken the serious route to narrate it. They have very well got drama, comedy, tragedy and most importantly the entertainment factor in the film. Not even for a second, you feel bored while watching the movie. Tushar has narrated the film with his heart and soul. It makes you laugh and even choke at a few moments. A special mention to the dialogues in the movie. There are many dialogues in the film that will make you applaud and whistle.

The only problem with Saand Ki Aankh is the makeup. The makeup doesn’t look natural. Also, in some scenes, Taapsee’s hair is seen black and then in the next scene, it’s full white. We wish the makers concentrated on the makeup here.

Coming to actors, Bhumi Pednekar steals the show with her performance. She is simply outstanding and we won’t be surprised if she receives awards for her act in this movie. Taapsee Pannu too manages to impress us and delivers something out of her comfort zone. Viineet Kumar is damn good in his role. Prakash Jha is simply wow. The actresses, who play the role of Shefali and Seema, also leave a mark. Shaad Randhawa has a small role to play, but he impresses.

We are in love with the music of Saand Ki Aankh. Each and every song is damn good and thankfully all of them are original and not a recreated version. Hats off to Vishal Mishra for that.

Overall, Saand Ki Aankh is clearly one of the best films of the year. A must watch for everyone.

Ratings: 4/5

Eurovision in turmoil as Spain Ireland and Netherlands threaten withdrawal over Gaza conflict

Highlights:

  • Spain leads a growing boycott movement, with Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia also refusing to participate if Israel competes.
  • The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is in crisis talks, extending its decision deadline to December 2025.
  • The situation draws direct comparisons to Russia’s exclusion in 2022, creating a precedent the EBU must now navigate.
  • The core dilemma pits Eurovision’s non-political ideals against the stark reality of a humanitarian crisis.

The Eurovision Song Contest, that glitter-drenched annual spectacle of pop and unity, is staring into the abyss. The escalating call for a Eurovision boycott over Israel's participation, against the backdrop of the ongoing Gaza conflict, has put the organisers into their most severe political crisis yet. This isn't just about another song entry but a fundamental clash between the contest's cherished apolitical fantasy and the inescapable geopolitics of the real world, threatening to tear the competition apart from within.
